DIY culture plays a massive part in creative lifestyles particularly that of surfer dudes - The Ellameno Beat. Starting out as a hobby and dream in a teenager's bedroom, The Ellameno Beat have just released their full-length debut album, 'Surface'(available on iTunes, Spotify) a primarily reggae album that also leans slightly towards pop and jazz, in tracks such as, 'One of Us,''Muse' and 'Take Me Away.' All of the proceeds (for the album) this month will go towards The Mauli Ola Foundation for genetic disorders like cystic fibrosis.
Their journey is one of determination, confidence and extreme luck. Starting in small beach town Jensen Beach, frontman Reggie Froom started off like many musical teens making beats in his bedroom by night whilst hitting the waves and going to school by day. As his work became more widely recognised, opportunities began to fall into his lap forming the first layer of commitment to following his dream on the road to the music industry.
"Walk on this bumpy road and see a truth revealing..."
One night changed it all.
After attending dancehall, reggae artist Yellowman's concert, he met bassist David Richards with whom gave him the opportunity to jam out with and make music in their hotel room. This connection was the beginning of a long and prosperous journey towards forming the band. With a friend, drummer James Rosenblit, Froom was invited to Richard's studio where they managed to record their own track in a professional setting. This was the birthing of the band where they were encouraged to round-up more people and hit the live music scene.
So that's exactly what Froom and Rosenblit did recruiting Walter Brantingham on keys, Dylon Hixon on bass and Matt Diamond on trumpet and vocals. Sweeping the state of Florida, they are now based in the city of Jacksonville. Despite growing to play international shows, they haven't left their DIY and surfing roots as they believe strongly in an alternative path, playing local shows, running everything themselves and having a fundamental role in their community to keep them grounded.
