ICYMI

Homegrown in Cheltenham, rising pop-punk band 'ICYMI' are bringing an energetic spark to the world of pop-punk with their debut EP - 'Sweat'.

The EP kicks off with self-titled track 'Sweat' which is one of the heavier tracks on the EP. 'Sweat' imprints the statement of 'ICYMI' being a fun-loving, rhythmic pop-punk band. This impressionable song seems to be about the strength with pushing through setbacks to get where you want to be during coming-of-age moments in life.

The dynamic shifts in the next track, 'Castaway' with a dark, staccato beginning as each instrument has a place before bringing it all together for the chorus. As the song, progresses it adopts a pop basis before diverting back towards the initial dark sound. 'Castaway' is really a track driven by power at the end with lead singer Elin Allan's smooth vocals.

Their debut single track 'Get Out' is the most favourable track on the EP extracting influences from Paramore, the bridge of 'Get Out' is mysteriously heroic with moody bass-lines and a steady percussion build up to the soul-shaking unmistakable falsetto. This conclusively kicks the initial theme of the track - struggling with mental health that we all go through but experience in different ways.

ICYMI tone the EP down with 'Resolve This' which lyrically carries a lot of emotion and power but seems instrumentally harder to connect with.

Most recent single, 'Mind Games' fully incorporates the multifaceted potential of 'ICYMI'. The addictive guitar riffs combined with the rhythmic control driven by the bass and drums makes this song. This is the part of the EP where drummer, Ben Thomas seems to be showcased most.

Lyrically, the final track, 'Majesty' held the most impact on the EP.

"Feed off the fear and break me down but I'm still here I'm stronger now."

-Majesty

These empowering lyrics in 'Majesty' close the EP off well, leaving you with the stronghold where you can stand after all you've been through, related to and experienced whilst listening to the EP.

As expected with a fresh debut, the ICYMI still seem to be experimenting with their individual sound but have promising prospects within the pop-punk scene.
