Local label NDPNDNTS creates a space for young artists in Brighton, London and across Europe to collaborate and make music together. Blending lo-fi, hip-hop and old school sounds with experimental and trap, NDPNDNTS add a unique touch to Brighton's ever-growing music scene. This time, they'll be hosting the album launch of 'Konoha', a fresh mix by Obijuan and Philanthrope.
Holding on to his Bahamian heritage, Obijuan is driven to add a unique flavour to the scene back home by branching out across the Atlantic shores, making waves over on the south coast and beyond. That autonomous drive is reflected in 'Konoha', as they both break away from their traditional sound the quality remains the same bringing something new to the table. Obijuan describes it as "tight beats & straight bars...but just different. Honestly, it’s something fresh & I don’t think it’s comparable to anything or anyone else."
This LP follows on from their previous work together and the studio set up is always homely and easy-going. Obijuan explains the process of making his music, "I just wake up and get to it, but I don’t ever force it or overthink anything.. it’s all free flow; I like to say I let the lord write through me rather than putting my own conscious thoughts into it. I just hear the beat & rap.. a lot of the time I’ll freestyle a whole song and just add adlibs later."
Similar to their previous event, NDPNDNTS brings in a multidisciplinary element to Side-A with videographers, Mango Juice Music who showcase underground hip-hop talent through live sessions.
Joining Obijuan on the setlist will be NDPNDNTS' latest addition, Changing Currents. Having kicked off his music production two years ago, he appeared on the scene through open mic events like Eventide, and Kustom Vibes. "Looking at my progression from 2 years ago to now...is a constant reminder of where I’ve come in this short space of time." On the night, you can expect him to be mixing dreamy lo-fi sounds with a twist but you'll just have to come along and hear for yourself.
Also on the list are familiar faces from NDPNDNTS such as rapper Madaliso performing tracks from debut album, 'The Product of Knowing', and beats from 'Imaginary Homie'. Madaliso's deeply poetic and emotional bars encapsulate a time and experience of settling in a new place.
Joining forces will be Teddy Nash and Tokyo Jo as 'L-Tronic' bringing together two amazing artists for a fresh take on electronic tracks. From previous events these guys tend to set the mood of the evening making it an NDPNDNTS showcase.
Returning artists include Loot Camp, Verbz, Renelle 893 who brings the party to the crowd jumping into the audience on occasion and has a really great reputation for completing the energy of the show.
Tickets are between £5 and £7 and are available online here.
