Grave Digging Shoes - a song to the Windrush Generation

Just in time for Black History Month, Riah Knight dropped a chilling acapella of her latest track Grave Digging Shoes.

'Grave Digging Shoes' is a song essential for the current political climate. Knight dedicated this track to the Windrush Generation, honing in on her personal experience of people in her community and friendship circles who have been impacted by the jaded identity crisis of what it truly means to be 'British'.

The video, filmed by Jerome James King, is filmed in a church accentuating her soulful vocals that echo that of spiritual songs with mimmal instruments other than that about the person. Most shots surround the church setting using just finger clicks as the only form of musical accompaniment. Lyrically reminiscent, the song tells the story of the Grave Digging Man expressing vivid imagery of a familiar lifestyle that some of those who were part of the Windrush Generation had been through.
