Musical Tunes, Musical Food | The Happy Maki

AVRA ZINE

Ayyyee! We've made it to AVRA issue #5 and upon this release we revealed that we will be a feature on their blog and within the zine bringing you the top creations and food masterpieces for when you have to get inventive as well as reviews from our favourite places.

As this is for the Music issue of AVRA, let's put this into perspective. You're on a night out to see your favourite local band at a venue in Brighton. You need food. Specifically some vegan-goodness before you can party. Where do you go?

The Happy Maki is an enticing sushi wrap restaurant tucked away behind The Haunt in Brighton.

When you walk in you're faced with a Subway-esque setup for a full wrap experience and the best bit is it's all vegan, environmentally - friendly (I barely saw any plastic in there) and some of your money goes towards planting trees and a meal for children.

You can choose from a variety of fillings from: crispy “chicken” and “duck” to sweet potato wedges, raw beetroot and of course avocado. They will also add or remove ingredients if you dislike them in the combo so it's a win for all! Even the meat-eaters, you would never go back to eating meat when you taste the crispy “duck” that tastes like it may as well have been the real thing.

“I never knew vegan food could taste this good!”

Or you've recently joined the bandwagon of Instagram hipster wannabes with their avocado toast and avocado hype. Try the “Avocado Kiss” wrap oozing with triple avocado, cucumber, sesame seeds, sun-dried tomatoes, basil, red pepper and soy sauce. Once you visit The Happy Maki there's no going back.

Their sides are also banging with a choice of sweet potato fries, popcorn cauliflower and tofu rice pockets. Having only tried the sweet potato fries with a spicy coconut sauce I can recommend that they are a great combination.

As this for students, after all, they offer student discount so you save money whilst eating good food, contributing to the environment and feeding children across the globe.
